PERMANENT RESIDENCY

New Zealand PR, you must first obtain a Resident Visa, then live in New Zealand for two years to meet the commitment criteria for the Permanent Resident Visa. Pathways to residency include the Skilled Migrant Category, which uses a points system for skilled workers, and direct pathways like the Straight to Residence visa for certain Green List occupations. Once your Permanent Resident Visa is approved, you gain the right to live, work, and study in New Zealand indefinitely and travel without restrictions.

Steps Involved

  • Assess Eligibility:
    Determine if you meet the requirements for a relevant residency pathway, such as the Skilled Migrant Category.

  • Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI):
    Create an account on the Immigration New Zealand website and submit an EOI, which is a preliminary application outlining your qualifications.

  • Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA):
    If your EOI is selected, you will be invited to apply for the Resident Visa.

  • Complete the Residence Visa Application:
    Submit the full application, pay the fees, and provide all required documents.

  • Pass Medical and Character Checks:
    Undergo medical examinations and provide police clearance certificates.

  • Obtain a Resident Visa:
    If approved, you’ll receive a Resident Visa, which allows you to live and work in New Zealand.

  • Apply for the Permanent Resident Visa:
    After holding a Resident Visa for at least two continuous years and demonstrating commitment to New Zealand, you can apply for the permanent visa.

How to achieve PR in New Zealand?

POINTS CALCULATOR

The Expression of Interest determines the points one claims to be a skilled migrant, and 100 points will get your EOI into the pool, but the more points you have, the more likely you are to be selected. There are bonus points also in some cases as if you work in an identified future growth area or in absolute skills shortage you get 10 points for that.

  • There are 10 points if you work in a region outside Auckland, and 20 points more if your partner has a skilled job or job offer.

  • If you have 140 points or over your EOI will be selected automatically for an ITA.

  • If you have 100-135 points you are able to submit an EOI but it may not be selected.

  • You are more likely to be successful if you have a job or job offer for skilled employment, or.

  • Claimed bonus points for work experience in an area of absolute skill shortage.

There are three basic methods you can opt to apply for New Zealand Visa from India:

  • SMC (Skilled Migrant Category): The Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) allows you to live and work in New Zealand on a permanent basis. However, you need to go through a point-based system to find out whether you are eligible to apply for this visa. The points are basically allocated for your key profile details, i.e. Age, Education, work experience, etc.

  • You can become eligible to apply for PR in New Zealand under SMC category provided you:

    • Are 55 years or below

    • Speak English.

FEE INVOLVED

To apply for Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa, you need to pay immigration cost and apply for residence charges.     Explanation of fees/charges:

    • EOI (Stage 1) – You pay this fee for your online application submission through Visa or MasterCard.

    • Apply for Residence (Stage 2) – This is the charge for Immigration New Zealand to process your application. You will not get any refund for the application costs if Immigration NZ decline your application. A non-refundable immigration levy is charged and is included in the cost.
