UK Visit / Tourist Visa (Standard Visitor Visa)

Overview

The Standard Visitor Visa allows foreign nationals to travel to the UK temporarily for:

  • Tourism and holidays

  • Visiting family or friends

  • Business meetings or short-term business activities

  • Short-term studies (up to 6 months)

Visa Validity

  • Standard visa → Stay up to 6 months per visit

  • Long-term visas → 2 years, 5 years, or 10 years (multiple entries allowed)

    • Still limited to 6 months maximum stay per visit

Eligibility (Who Can Apply?)

  • Must clearly state purpose of visit (tourism, family, or business)

  • Show proof of financial support during stay

  • Demonstrate intention to leave the UK after visit

  • Provide details of travel plans and accommodation

Required Documents

  • Valid passport (at least 3 months validity beyond intended stay, 2 blank pages)

  • Completed online application form

  • Bank statements (last 6 months) & proof of income

  • Previous travel history / visas

  • Supporting letters (employer letter, invitation if visiting family/friends)

  • Passport-size photo (if required by VAC system)

Application Process

  • Start Online Application on GOV.UK

  • Fill Form with personal details, travel history, financial info

  • Upload Documents (passport, funds, travel details)

  • Pay Visa Fee (standard visitor visa: £127 ≈ ₹13,462 for Indians effective April 1, 2025)

  • Book Appointment at Visa Application Centre (VAC) for biometrics (fingerprints + photo)

  • Decision & Passport Return (visa stamped if approved)

Key Points

  • Application must be made before travelling

  • Must prove temporary intent and sufficient funds

  • Long-term multiple-entry visas are available but each stay max 6 months

  • Fee varies depending on visa duration (2, 5, or 10 years)
