USA Visit / Tourist Visa (B-1/B-2)

Overview

The B-1/B-2 Visitor Visa allows foreign nationals to travel temporarily to the U.S. for:

  • B-1: Business purposes (meetings, conferences, negotiations)

  • B-2: Tourism, visiting family/friends, medical treatment

  • B-1/B-2: Covers both business & tourism

Some countries may qualify under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) for stays up to 90 days without a visa (with ESTA approval).

 

Maximum Stay

  • Stay per entry: Up to 6 months (decided by CBP officer at port-of-entry)

  • Visa validity: Can be issued for multiple years (often up to 10 years)

  • No guaranteed entry – final decision lies with Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

  • Strong ties to home country (family, job, property, financial stability)

  • Proof of temporary intent (not immigration)

  • Sufficient funds for the stay

  • Valid passport (6 months beyond intended stay)

Application Process

  • Determine Eligibility

    • Check if you qualify for VWP or need to apply for B-1/B-2 visa

  • Complete Form DS-160

    • Fill the online Nonimmigrant Visa Application

  • Pay the Visa Fee

    • Standard application fee: $185 (non-refundable)

  • Schedule Interview

    • Book an appointment at U.S. Embassy/Consulate

    • In some cases, attend biometrics appointment (fingerprints + photo)

  • Attend Interview

    • Provide documents and answer questions about trip purpose, ties to home country, and financials

  • Await Decision

    • If approved → Visa stamped on passport

    • If additional processing needed → embassy will inform

Required Documents

  • Valid Passport (6 months beyond intended stay)

  • DS-160 Confirmation Page

  • Visa Fee Payment Receipt

  • Passport-style photo (meeting U.S. visa photo rules)

  • Proof of funds (bank statements, salary slips, etc.)

  • Employment verification (if applicable)

  • Documents showing strong home country ties (family, job, property papers)

  • Travel itinerary & accommodation details
